Read on to learn more about our natural skincare range..
Each one of these brands prides themselves on producing products that have as many naturally derived ingredients as possible. Botanical sources such as plants, flowers and roots are used together with naturally derived carrier ingredients which are the bits needed to stop the product separating, giving them a long shelf life, make them more soluble or to aid skin penetration for example. Generally, it is these additives which are chemically based and full of ‘nasties’ such as chemical detergent/surfactants Sodium Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), other chemical emulsifying agents/dispersants like Phthalates and preservatives called parabens. In particular, these agents have had a bad press of late so it is no wonder that chemical conscious manufacturers are doing all they can to eradicate them once and for all and replace with natural alternatives. Our precious skin is the biggest organ our body has so why abuse it with needless chemicals.
Trusted brands can be found in this area and these products try as much as possible to eradicate synthetic elements such as chemicals and are not chemically dependent and are as natural as possible. Some also do away with mineral oils, lanolin and petrolatum as well. In addition care is given to the use of artificial colours, with minimal use of synthetic fragrances too with only natural fragrances and essential oils.
Natural products are also environmentally friendly so that when they are washed down the plughole they do not harm waterways and organisms therein. Packaging too is recyclable, so there is minimum impact on environment on disposal, and some even are biodegradable.
On the manufacturing side the companies use ethically sourced ingredients, with sustainable agriculture. Some are also organic – meaning the source ingredients are grown without use of chemical and synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, so look out for this logo on product labels.
They are animal friendly too, not tested on animals, nor contain animal by-products. Some products display the cruelty free bunny logo to certify as such. Others are also vegetarian and even vegan, again check the label and ingredients list before buying if in doubt.
